Eat With the Pros

Meet Redan Middle School Teacher and Football Coach Mr. Keldrick “K.D.” Dunn. After a successful four years on the football field playing with the Division I Clemson Tigers, Dunn declared his eligibility for the 1985 NFL Draft where he was picked up by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fifth round. Now a veteran educator, Dunn was picked up by the RMS Raiders for the 2017-2018 school year where he created “Eat with the Pros”.

Each Friday during football season Coach Dunn has invited retired professional athletes living in the Atlanta area to visit the school and share their wisdom as well as a meal with the team. Players such as Eddie Drummond of the Detroit Lions, Eric McMillian of the New York Jets, and Ernest “The Cat” Miller former WCW Wrestler are just a few of the many professionals to visit with the students in the first weeks of the program. Sitting in small groups with students, former players give their insights on what it is to be a professional, setting positive and realistic goals, and how they transitioned successfully from the field to life outside of the spotlight.

Through this simple program, student athletes are reminded that they must be students first; students in school, their chosen sport, AND in life. Other professional athletes to visit so far include Alphonso Carracker of the Green Bay Packers and Harvey Armstrong of the Indianapolis Colts.
